Canadian Association for Numismatic Education (CAFNE) Reception

CANADIAN ASSOCIATION FOR NUMISMATIC EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAMME AND 2018 DONATION CAMPAIGN

The Canadian Association for Numismatic Education is a non profit charity that provides funding for educational numismatic events.   CAFNE operates separately from the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association but has an arm’s length association with them.

The primary mandate of CAFNE is to educate the public about numismatics on the study of coins, currency, medals, tokens, paper money, and related objects primarily from Canada, but also including other cultures, past and present, through the provision of educational programs and activities.  During the past few years, CAFNE has provided funding for a variety of numismatic educational programs such as the Toronto Coin Expo, Ottawa Numismatic Society publication “Moneta”, RCNA coin grading and preservation seminars, Brantford Numismatic Society meeting speaker, RCNA annual educational symposiums and many more similar events.

Funding for CAFNE comes from donations.  The CAFNE Board of Directors include the following individuals.

Robert Forbes, Chairman

Henry Nienhuis

Scott E. Douglas

Mike Walsh

Lloyd Chan

Yvon Marquis

William Waychison

Michael Turrini

Chris Boyer

Paul Johnson, Secretary

Each year the Canadian Association for Numismatic Education holds a special reception during the annual Royal Canadian Numismatic Association.  In 2018 this reception will be held during the 2018 RCNA convention in Mississauga, Ontario on Thursday, August 9 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. There will be a special donation auction and complimentary snacks and drinks will be available for attendees.  Everyone is encouraged to attend this free event. The reception also provides you to opportunity to meet and speak with other collectors in the numismatic hobby.

This year we have a financial matching program.  Well known California numismatists Michael S. Turrini and Alexander Chamberlain will both donate up to $2,000 (U.S. funds) for  $1,000 that is donated to CAFNE. This is a tremendous opportunity for collectors to assist in funding for CAFNE and receive a tax refund for their donation.

The board encourages numismatic organizations to plan special numismatic related seminars and apply to CAFNE for funding.   Further information and a funding application can be obtained by contacting Paul Johnson, CAFNE Secretary, 5694 Highway #7 East, Suite 432, Markham,  Ontario L3P 1B4. Email: info@rcna.ca or telephone : 1-647-401-4014.  The website of CAFNE is www.cafne.ca.  Your donation to CAFNE is appreciated.  You will receive a tax receipt and be listed as a donor in the CN Journal.
